Widening the spectrum of retirement housing in Tower Hamlets

The launch of the Widening the spectrum of retirement housing in Tower Hamlets report took place on Tuesday 15 January at De Vere venues, Canary Wharf.

Special guest speakers included Lutfur Rahman, Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lord Richard Best, Chair of the All Parliamentary Group on Housing and Care for Older People and David Lunts, Executive Director of Housing and Land, Greater London Authority.

Early last year Gateway, with the support of Tower Hamlets Council, set up the Tower Hamlets Older People’s Housing Commission. The purpose of the Commission was to provide some insights into what choices older people say they want and how it can successfully be provided within an economic environment of decreased funding for subsidised housing and an increasingly diverse older population.

The Commission is chaired by Don Wood, CBE, and its membership includes representatives from the local authority, Age UK, the National Housing Federation, the local Arm’s Length Management Organisation (ALMO) Tower Hamlets Homes, and Gateway Board, shareholders and residents.
