Waste disposal

Waste disposal

Rubbish

If you live in a street property you will have a wheelie bin.

If you live in a block, there are communal bins for your rubbish.

Make sure you put all your rubbish in the correct place.

Do not leave it on the street or outside of your block on the landing.

The council will collect your rubbish and recycling on a weekly basis.

Please contact your local council to find out when collections are made in your area.

Wheelie bins

If you live in a street property, wheelie bins are your responsibility.

If you live in a house in Tower Hamlets or Hackney and your wheelie bin is lost, damaged or stolen, you will need to buy one.

Tower Hamlets and Hackney councils do not supply bins or wheelie bins to residents.

If you live in Newham, you need to phone 020 8430 2000 for a free replacement. They will replace wheelie bins at least once free of charge.

Recycling

We encourage all our residents to recycle as much as they can.

Tower Hamlets, Newham and Hackney councils all have a comprehensive recycling scheme with boxes or bags for all recyclables.

Bulk waste

If you have something large to dispose of, for example a fridge, washing machine, furniture, rolls of carpet or computer equipment, then please call:

  • Tower Hamlets streetline on 020 7364 5004 - two collections per year (senior citizens and those with disabilities get unlimited collections). You need to give five working days notice.
  • Newham on 020 8430 2000. Your items will be picked up within five working days.
  • Hackney wasteline on 020 8356 6688. Your items should be picked up within 24 hours if you book before 2pm.

Fly tipping and dumping rubbish

Fly tipping is where someone illegally leaves a large amount of rubbish or dumped large items in an area that is not for rubbish, or have left bulky items without arranging for their collection.

If you see that someone has dumped items in your block or estate, please call us on 020 8709 4300.
